About Sam

I first became interested in natural medicine when I turned to acupuncture for a sleep disorder in 2007. My western trained mind had always led me to believe that the ‘cure’ was always outside of myself. My first acupuncture session changed that instantly.

During my first session I found it strange that I was asked questions ranging from my female cycle to what type of childhood I had. I couldn’t see how this was going to solve my sleep issues. I also couldn’t see how placing tiny needles in what seemed like random areas over my body was going to help either. But I was willing to try anything. As I started to relax I felt what I would later discover to be the subtle sensation of 'Qi' travelling through my body, re-aligning and balancing my system, organs, essential fluids and meridians….. which would later that night bring me to a full nights sleep. My first in weeks.

As converted as I was, it never crossed my mind to study Acupuncture. As I carried on with my life, stumbling on with a constant feeling of unfulfilled momentum I decided to see what lay in my subconscious. And so in 2011 I completed my first 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat which consisted of no speaking, no eye contact, no reading or writing or any form of outside stimulation. This combined with 10 hours of meditation per day for ten days causes you to go deep within yourself. As all stimulation is removed you are left with just your own mind. Which for the most part was not pleasant! But once you break down your mind, you go beyond it, you transcend.

The day I left the Vipassana retreat it was clear as day to me that I had to study acupuncture. I quickly started researching colleges and chatting to graduates until I found the right college for me. Within two weeks of leaving the retreat I was enrolled on a Traditional Chinese medicine course covering Acupuncture, Moxabustion, Electro acupuncture as well as Eight Principle Chinese Medical theory. Not a day has gone by that I doubt my decision.

Chinese Medicine looks at the body, mind and spirit as a whole. All connected. All effecting each other. Never separate. Over time I have become more and more aware of just how important this is when treating each and every client. Always trying to get to the root cause.

“If you find the root cause, the symptoms that manifest will resolve themselves”
